Quote interpretation

"The only thing to do with good advices is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself."
It can be easy to give good advices to other peoples, but it is hard to follow them or do
 it yourself.

Road trip in the UK

England flag mini cooper carThe Start and the car
I started the trip by taking a plane to Brighton. At the airport, a red mini with a UK flag on top of it waited for me. I figured that since my road trip took place in the UK, a red mini cooper with a UK flag on it would be the perfect car. Just the driving takes 7 hours and 41 minutes without any stops, but that was not my plan… My plan was quite simple, for every new day, I was going to visit one new city. The rout was long, but the car was in good condition so there were no problems with the car at all.

                      This was my driving route:

1.      Brighton
2.      London
3.      Birmingham
4.      Manchester
5.      Newcastle upon Tyne

Day one - Brighton
I started the road trip in Brighton. The only plan I had for Brighton was to visit an old cinema at Horts. It was cool to see, because they had kept the old look in there so it kind of felt like you lived back in the days. There was 26 sets in the cinema. Every one of them     had a blanket, a pillow and a small table on the side. When I was done at the cinema, I went to take a walk at the Brighton pier. Brighton pier (Old Chain pier) was from 1823 originally a pier used as a landing stage for passenger ships that sailed from Dieppe in France. There has been a lot of history here, but in 1984, the pier got a new owner. Major changes were introduced such as free admission, free deck chairs, new food outlets on the forecourt and a traditional fish & chips restaurant.
Day two – London
It was day two and London was the next city to visit. I had been exited for this city for a long time, I’ve always wanted to visit London. First on the list of things to do in London was to visit Madame Tussauds. It was a lot of fun to walk around and see all the well-known characters and celebrities. They looked so real it almost scared me! When I walked around a corner, I actually thought I saw a real celebrity. After Madame Tussauds I went to see Big Ben before I drove to Astor Court Hotel where I was planning to spend the night. Before it was time to go bed I went shopping in Oxford Street. I was really tired after a long day in London, so I went to bed to prepare for Birmingham. This is outside Madame Tussauds.

Day three – Birmingham
When I woke up after a good night of sleep, I was ready for a new day and a new city. Today it was time to visit Birmingham. After breakfast, I drove to Birmingham F1K Track, which is a kart track. The track is 400 meters long, and has nine corners. Average lap time is 28 second, and my best time was 27 sec, so I was happy with my time. The track was inside so the weather was not any problem.
When I was finished karting I headed over to the LG arena on an Ed Sheeran concert. The atmosphere and the singing was amazing. Someone recommended a hotel in Birmingham named Eaton Hotel, so I went there to sleep.

Day four – Manchester
I had been most excited about this day. The day started at the Manchester Wheel to get a good view of the city in the 60 metre high wheel. Immediately when I was done there I went to the Old Trafford Stadium. This was definitely the best part of the trip. I went on a tour at the stadium and got to see many amazing things, like the dressing room and the lounge. In the lounge, the players can relax before and after a game with their families and teammates and do stuff like watch TV or read the newspaper. The dressing room is not just a room they change in, but it contains a spa pool, two small baths, six showers, video facilities and a warm-up room. There is also a museum at the stadium I checked out. It was a Brazilian legend named Pelé that opened the museum in 1998. Such an amazing experience!

Day five – Newcastle upon Tyne
On the last day in Newcastle I did not do anything else than to drive to the airport and take a plane home again after an incredible road trip in the UK.

Events that shaped English

The Angelo-Saxtons:

They settled in England and gave it its name "Engla land" (Land of the Angels) and its language "Englisc" Most of them were farmers and so Old English was full of words related to farming such as sheep, shepherd, ox, earth and field.

Scandinavian Settlement:
Scandinavian invaders started to come to Britain in the middle of the 9th century. They settled mainly in the northern and eastern areas. Norse had a great influence on English. Basic words such as "take" and "they" are borrowed form Norse.

1066 and after:
English underwent enormous changes after William the Conqueror defated Harold Godwinson at the battle of Hastings in 1066. The inflectional system of Old English broke down and Middle English became quite similar to the English we see today. The numbers of words in the language increased hugley, due to a great number of loanwords from French and Latin.

Standardization:
In the late medieval and early modern periods there was an ongoing process of standardizing English. The London standard became dominant, particulay in printed scripts. Over time a marked change in the pronumciation of English occured. This change is known as the Great Vowel Shift. With these changes Modern English was a reality, although   Shakespeare's English is hardly what we would consider "modern" today.

Colonization and Globalization:
As English became a world language, it was in turn influenced by new lonworlds as well as many new varieties of English.

English- a global language

The English language was spoken by 4 million people before, but after 400 years it became a global language spoken around the world. This is some of the reasons that makes English a global language.

·        English is learned as a second language in a lot of contries.

·        In the music and movie industry, English is mostly used.

·         A lot of books in the orginal language is English.

·        If you're traveling, you're most likley to go to a country where the peoples can speak English.

Walking on a road

I’m walking around on a road this morning.
It’s fall and I can feel a cold breeze.
The trees are losing their leaves.
I look around and what I see is
Lots of green trees and bushes and a sky so blue
I stop for a minute and listen
The trees are dancing along in the wind, I can hear it.
Peoples are laughing and talking to each other.

It’s a beautiful day.

Schooltrip to Jotunheimen

Last week from tuesday to friday we were on a schooltrip to Jotunheimen. We took the bus to get there and the first stop were Lillehammer where we could have something to eat. Next stop was a place named Helvete. Helvete is some really big potholes from the ice age.

After that we went to Sjoa where we slept in tents. On wednesday almost all of us went rafting at Sjoa rafting. I was in a boat with some other girls. It was pretty cold when we first went in the water, but we kept warm by rowing. Most of the time it was really fun! but our boat tipped over and we fell out. I ended up under the boat and that was really scary. When the boat were tipped back i couldn't reach our boat, but I found another boat that was closer.

When we got back to the camping, we had to take the tents down and put on some warm and dry clothes before we headed to Juvfonna. Juvfonna is a big ice tunnel made in an ice drift which is several thousand years old. It was pretty amazing to see what they have done with the ice drift.

Thursday was the most demanding day. We went to the roof of Norway, Galdhøpigen. Luckily the weather was good, it was sunny and almost not a single cloud to see. It was amazing to stand at the top of Norway. After we climbed down again, we went to the hostel and relaxed before the journey home again.

It was four incredible days that I will remember for a long time. Thank you for the trip.

Some song lyrics

We have listened to three song lyrics in our class; No man is an Island, I am a rock and you’ll never walk alone. These lyrics is quite different. I think No man is an Island says something about how the world is one. It says: “any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind”. Maybe he means that whenever any person dies a part of the world dies. I am a rock does say that he don’t want to make any friends or connect to anybody because if he connect to anybody he’ll just get hurt. You’ll never walk alone says that you will always have someone by your side, but it also says that you should not give up.
